Geneva, 22 June, 2022 Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL – Timor-Leste Red Cross)  and Indonesia Red Cross (PMI) would like to take this opportunity to convey our statement and expectation of how to work together and scaling up in the area of humanitarian cooperation and anticipatory action.

In 2020, PMI and CVTL signed a MoU which focused on cross-border cooperation particularly in  programmes and service in humanitarian cooperation. The aim of the MoU is to strengthen anticipatory action specifically along the border area of Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

The cooperation includes the  following:

  • Capacity building on Disaster Risk Reduction,
  • Health Preparedness,
  • Disaster Emergency Response,
  • Restoring Family Links,
  • Resource Mobilization,
  • Dissemination,
  • Humanitarian Diplomacy, and
  • Migration,

in normal and disaster situations.

The decision for PMI and CVTL to invest in this area is due to the communities along the border area sometimes having their voices drowned out and ignored in the anticipatory action efforts and are left behind in all sectors. Therefore we want to work side-by-side together as a Movement to support those communities by including all partners in the implementation.

We believed that this cooperation will be benefitted for both of our National Societies, particularly for community resilience in the border area and this will become good example for the future.

We thank Australia Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) for their support and look forward for continuing this support in the future.

Thank you

Luis Pedro Pinto

Secretary General Timor-Leste Red Cross
